Today we’re excited to announce a new product plan — Snyk Team — designed to help development teams empower themselves to build applications securely, together!

No development team wants to write an application that gets hacked—but many don’t have the skills or budget to use the application security tools currently offered in the market. Snyk Team provides an accessible and easy-to-purchase solution that puts world-class security capabilities into a tool designed for developers.

Automating security, as a team

According to GitHub’s 2020 State of the Octoverse report, now, more than ever before, developers are collaborating together on building software. Despite COVID-19, and thanks to automation and collaboration, “developers have been able to communicate more effectively and increase efficiency, carving out more time to do the work that matters most.” Security is increasingly becoming an integral part of this work as well.

Further, Snyk’s 2020 State of Open Source Security report found that 81% of respondents believe developers should own responsibility for securing their code and containers. Yet as they rise to the challenge of integrating security into their workflows, development teams have to overcome a key hurdle—they lack the security expertise needed to effectively integrate security, while the different specialized security tools on the market are either not affordable or effective.

Between a rock and a hard place

Development teams trying to integrate security into their development processes face a difficult decision. While realizing a security tool is necessary to be effective, the two available options currently available are far from perfect.

Option 1: Procure a specialized application security solution

This option can prove to be costly and difficult to procure, as security tools start at a high list price better suited for large teams and organizations. Additionally, these tools are typically built for security teams and not development teams. This means that integrating them into the team’s existing development process is difficult and likely to impact the productivity of the team.

Option 2: Use an open source or free application security solution

These tools might be good enough to check off a box but are usually weak in terms of security depth and the ability to properly identify issues and help developers fix them. They might be ideal from a budget perspective but can prove to be extremely expensive down the road if an unidentified vulnerability results in a security breach.

Both options above also suffer from the problem of requiring multiple tools based on the languages and frameworks in use, and then a completely different tool that handles containers. Developers end up wasting time managing multiple tools and context switching amongst various security reports and formats, instead of just fixing the underlying issues and focusing on what matters most—developing their applications.

Build securely, together!

Snyk now provides development teams with a third option and an easy way out of this dilemma, providing the only solution by a leading security company designed for developers. Snyk’s new Team plan enables development teams to leverage Snyk’s powerful security intelligence together with unlimited testing in an easy-to-use developer tool that will help them build applications securely, together.

Easily integrate into your team’s workflows

Snyk Team provides unlimited testing, enabling developers to automate Snyk’s security testing across all their projects and across the different stages of the software development lifecycle. This starts in their local development environments, via CLI, within their IDEs, or favorite container development tools, continues through their source code management systems (GitHub, Bitbucket, and GitLab) and container registries (Docker Hub, Quay, ECR/ACR/GCR), and then later in the process, during CI/CD.
